A boat cruise to see the glorious cherry blossoms

The cherry blossoms on the Kaizu Osaki peninsula have been officially nominated as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan. Some 800 spectacular Someiyoshino cherry trees, ranging from old trees that are more than 80 years old to young trees, stretch for about 4 km along the shore of Lake Biwa.
In recent years, the best time to view the cherry blossoms has been around early April, which makes Kaizu Osaki a relatively late blooming area within the Kinki region. Kaizu Osaki (also known as Gyomu Kaizu Osaki Rock Reef) is one of the eight scenic sites at Lake Biwa. The exquisite contrast between the reefs, which are the best in Lake Biwa, the blue of the lake, and the view of Chikubu Island in the distance is beautiful no matter how many times you see it.
Consequently it is a very popular tourist attraction. A dedicated cruise boat operates during the cherry blossom season, providing spectacular views of the beautiful trees from the water.
